We were lucky enough to catch-up with Sujan Patel a few weeks ago. For those of you who don't know Sujan, he's the leading man at WebProfits when he isn't side hustling for Link Texting, Pick or Mailshake. Sujan was kind enough to share his content marketing tips, hacks on how to jazz up your content and secrets to finding media and guest blogging opportunities.

Adding imagery and design elements to your content is really powerful. I use Snappa to design graphics to add to my content headlines etc. For some inspo, check out how Buffer design their content.

BuzzSumo is another great tool for identifying where your competitors arebeing mentioned in the media, so you can start targeting those media outlets and journalists too. Insert your brand, website domain and competitors into this tool and get updated daily when these terms are mentioned. BuzzSumo helps you to find out where and who you need to contact, you just need to figure out the angle/pitch.

Guest posting is a powerful way to build your personal brand. I use Google to find the top blogs to approach about guest blogging opportunities. This is a great way to get exposure in other communities and their audiences. Simply Google keywords/topics you’d want to blog about - so for me it might be “growth hacking customer success.” See which blogs rate the highest and order by popularity in Excel (article likes or site traffic). Next, Google “blog name+(guest posts)” to determine if they do guest posts. For more tips on using Google check out my full reco.

Once you've used Google to find those blogs who welcome guest posts, use SEMrush to find out what keywords they’re getting traffic from. This will help you to ensure you're providing them with content that will bring them traffic.

Make sure you email current customers when you're releasing new news. Within the email, use Typeform to ask about topics of interest or their biggest challenges so you can develop a relevant blog topic. Cross reference this feedback with BuzzSumo (to see how many people are talking about it) and SEMrush (to find out how many people are searching for it) to identify which topics are of most interest.

A massive “thank you” to Sujan for his awesome tips and hacks to be an expert Growth Marketer.  Be sure to check out the rest of his amazing recos here.
