We caught up with Jane Lu, founder of online women's fashion retailer, Showpo, to hear some essential advice on growing your social folllowing.
"When it comes to your brand on social, you have to decide who owns your social media presence...be careful putting your brand’s social media presence in the hands of an external company or intern. It's the voice of your company so it’s important that it comes from the people who know your business best!"
This means you'll often find Jane posting on social, whether it’s @showpo or her personal account @thelazyceo. Today, Jane shares top tools for amassing an awesome social following.
Picture perfect photography
For all our Instagram posts we use VSCO. Just super easy to use. It's one click to getting a perfect pic.
I use Afterlight when VSCO isn't giving me what I want. Both are super convenient since they are mobile apps and most of those photos are when I’m out and about.
Choose the right channel
You need to select the right social channel for the message and the industry. We’re a fun, young, fashion brand so we use Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook. Snapchat is great for behind-the-scenes video . Instagram is the ultimate medium for fashion because it’s all about beautiful photos. And Facebook has awesome tools for analytics and retargeting so we reach the right consumers.
Scheduling saves time
Social media can be SO time-consuming. The trick is to become obsessed with it so that you understand how it works and make the most of these platforms. Schedugram vital for our Instagram account. We post 15+ times a day across several accounts, so being able to schedule them in advance upfront saves so much time.
Know what’s working and retarget the rest!
You have to track which posts have the best click-through to the site (after all we are trying to sell clothes here!) I use Google Analytics (make sure you use best practice when creating tracking links). For abandoned customers, I use Perfect Audience to retarget them with other ads to get them back to buy.
A massive thank you to Jane for her secrets on building the ultimate fan following - you can checkout the rest of her amazing recos for growing her business here.
